in San Francisco Bay Area |

Learn to play a traditional
Chinese instrument from the internationally acclaimed Melody of
China award winning musicians, Hong Wang, Yangqin Zhao and Gangqin
Zhao, each with over 20 years of teaching experience. Instruments
include the er-hu (Chinese fiddle), yang-qin (Chinese hammered dulcimer),
gu-zheng (table harp), pi-pa (Chinese lute), di-zi (bamboo flutes),
ruan and yue-qin (moon guitar) and other percussion instruments.
Beginning, intermediate and advanced adult and youth (age 8 and
up) classes are available. All classes will begin in August 2002

CLASS TIME AVAILABILITY
Class time availability for group lessons are as follow:
Monday, 4:00 - 8:00pm
Wednesday, 4:00 - 8:00pm
Thursday, 4:00 - 8:00pm
Saturday, 12:00 - 2:00pm
Sunday,
1:30 - 3:30pm (Intermediate Adult Student
Orchestra)
3:45 - 4:45pm (Intermediate Youth Orchestra)
5:00 - 6:30pm (guzheng only)
6:30 - 8:30pm (Advanced Youth Orchestra, every other Sundays)
Class time for group lessons is between 1 to 1.5 hours, once a week,
depending on the number of students in the class: 1 hour class time
for 3 students and 1.5 hours class time for 4 or more students.
Class time for the student orchestra differs slightly.
TUITION and FEES
Tuition and fees for a 2-month session
at the Melody of China Music Center
are as follows:
Registration fee $20
Tuition is $20 per class. Tuition per 2- month session will range
from $160 to $180 depending on the number of weeks in that session.
Tuition for the Intermediate Youth Orchestra
is $15 per class or $135 for a 2 month session.
Tuition for group classes in cities outside of San Francisco (Danville,
San Jose, Santa Rosa, Saratoga, etc.) is $30 per class, to accommodate
the transportation costs and time of the instructor(s). Tuition
per 2-month session will range from $220 to $240 depending on
the
number of weeks.
Tuition for the session and all fees are payable on the first day
of class of each session.
Tuition is prorated for students enrolled after the session begins.
If the teachers must postpone a class due to performance, the session
will be extended accordingly.

Melody of China, a Chinese music ensemble
based in the San Francisco Bay Area, was formed in 1993 by a group of
enthusiastic musicians from some of the most prestigious music conservatories
in China. The ensemble seeks to promote classical Chinese music and
the synergy between an ancient cultural readition and the youthful multicolored
American culture. Sessions include introduction to Chinese instruments,
a professional performance and opportunity for play with musicains or
practice with Taich players as well as ask questions.
Fees:
Two classes maximun recommended for
optimal experience.
$600 - $1,200 for one ansembly or back to back ansemblies, the fees
are depend on the number of performances.
Combination programs and prices can be negotiated.
*3-4 week:
(1)traditional bowed instruments-huqin and hammered dulcimer-yangqin
(2)traditional percussion (gongs, cymbols, drums, chimes, bells,
etc)
(3)traditional wind instruments (bamboo flutes-di, xiao,
shen, bawu)
(4)traditional plucked instruments (moon guitar-ruan, mandorin-liuqin,
and three-stringed instrument-sanxian,etc)

Private Lessons |

Melody of China offers private lessons
of Chinese traditional instruments.
The instrumetation includes traditional strings(erhu, gaohu
etc), winds(di, xiao, bawu etc);
plucked strings (yang-qin, pi-pa, zhong-ruan, liu-qin, san-xian
etc); and Chinese percussion.
